Getting kicked out..
NDIS and State Health departments battle for funding responsibility while residents are left homeless.
Halwyn Centre due to close in Brisbane leaving families of those with severe psycho social, physical and or intellectual disability with gaps in funding, no suitable home to go to and, a political funding battle ahead of them.
These families are at a major point in their life – they
have relied upon this facility for a safe and secure place for their loved ones
to live and be cared for. With this
centre now closing (scheduled for Nov 2019), the NDIS and state health
department aren’t sure who’s going to pay for their specialist care, OR Where
exactly they’re going to be able to live.
In our opinion, the state and federal governments need to
work together to deliver not only the specialist medical services required, but
the support, and housing that will enable these families to transition to their
own Specialist Disability House, with nursing and disability care 24/7 funded
through their NDIS plan in conjunction with QLD health. It can and has been done in other states
already.
We have worked successfully with other state health departments and the NDIS to combine funding and provide Specialist housing, nursing and disability support services before. We are building a number of specialist disability homes in around the country to cater for people coming out of hospitals and residential care facilities like Halwyn. We’re so proud to be a part of the solution and, have a great outlook for many of the families transitioning.
If the QLD State Health Department can work together with the NDIS – these people CAN get the care, home and funding packages that will enable them to live their lives in a proper home, where they feel supported and are safely cared for 24/7.
The more we work together to achieve this goal, the more people we can all help live better lives.
We’d love to hear from you or a family member going through a similar situation.
What have you discussed if your loved one can get out of a permanent hospital or nursing home bed? Do you have a long-term plan that covers the 3 main concerns (Home, Nursing, Support Services)?
