Support Coordination Now a Recognised Need in NDIS.
Support Coordinators listen up!
It’s been a big few years getting the NDIS and the NDIS community to understand the scope of a support coordinators role.
First we started off with limited funding to only complex cases, then came the conflict of interest argument, noting that often support coordinators link participants to services that also come under their employers banner.
In light of the recent clarity from the NDIS and the Tune Report’s recommendations, we believe that the NDIS is slowly but surely making progress in the right direction.
Take a look…
- Support Coordinators are getting more education & resources delivered to help them navigate their role & support participants well
- Support Coordination & Specialized Support Coordination are now recognised in Core funding (a huge win)! This allows easier access to the service, and less restriction on who/how you can access it
- Conflict of Interest flagged to be addressed in next Tune Review, for Support coordinators acting on behalf of an NDIS provider receiving funding for additional supports for the same participant.
All of these moves are positive, and in a general sense a move in the right direction. Being an essential service for many, having limited funding and having to jump through hoops once their allocation had been used up, the addition of COS to Core Funding will impact many positively.
This allows for those without support coordination to access this service from their core budget. It also is added support hours if a participant has used their allocated COS funding up, without the need for a review.
